Angelversaries and Heavenly Birthdays

The anniversaries and birthdays of our loved ones can be some of the hardest days of the year. As those dates approach, emotions often become more intense and we can find ourselves reliving memories, wondering what life would have been like had they still been here.

As our bereaved mums' group has grown, we inevitably have significant dates to remember throughout the year. Rather than allowing those days to pass unnoticed, we try to support one another in small but meaningful ways.

Recently, one of the mums marked her son's angelversary by bringing us the most beautiful angel wing cupcakes. Another mum, who owns a farm, surprised us all with magnificent sunflowers she had grown herself.

These gestures weren't extravagant, but they were incredibly thoughtful. They reminded us that our children are remembered, their lives continue to matter and that someone is thinking of us on the days that can feel the loneliest.

Grief has taught me that remembrance doesn't always have to be grand. Sometimes, a cupcake, a bunch of flowers, or simply someone saying your child's name can bring more comfort than words ever could.

If you know someone approaching an angelversary or a heavenly birthday, don't be afraid to acknowledge it. A simple message, a favourite flower, a card, or a shared memory can mean more than you will ever know.

After all, our greatest fear is not that our children will be remembered too much, but that they will be forgotten.
